I’ve been having insomnia and didn’t want to take Benedryl, so I tried counting sheep as they jumped over the fence and me. One, two, three, four… A kid came along to watch, clearly wondering what I was doing.
I ignored him. Concentrated on the sheep. Five sheep, six sheep, seven. I could picture their legs and fluff. This was going well.
Another guy came along and asked the first what was up. Before long, a whole group was watching.
Then they started arguing about whether this was too much work for the sheep and should they build a bridge?
Someone said it was good for the sheep and built character to apply themselves like that.
Another person suggested they take down the fence– easier than a bridge.
Then the first kid started erecting an awning. He asked me to help because the sheep were getting wet in the rain.
A section of awning I was working on collapsed, soaking me. Then I really couldn’t sleep.
And that is why counting sheep never ever works for me.
